Canadian Dermatology Association

Ottawa (Hybrid)

Heading into its 100th year, the Canadian Dermatology Association is the national voice of Canada’s certified dermatologists, the physician experts in skin health. The CDA is committed to uniting dermatologists through education and advocacy, fostering a strong, united professional community, and promoting excellent patient care through continued professional development. CDA advocates for the certified dermatologist and their essential role in the Canadian healthcare system; protects the value of their specialty and the expertise of their members; and supports members as a strong community of Canadian dermatologists.

The Canadian Dermatology Association is seeking a Director, Finance and Operations to provide strategic oversight and operational guidance to its Finance, IT, and HR team. This position is a key member of the senior leadership team, responsible for providing critical support to refine and deliver the CDA value proposition to members for its future. The Director’s leadership abilities and strategic vision will contribute to the execution of the strategic plan and the building of a performance driven organization.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Director, Finance and Operations leadership extends to the Finance and Operations Team (2), providing guidance, feedback, and engagement to ensure ongoing success. In the realm of finance and accounting, the Director will offer strategic insights to the CEO, senior management, and the Board, overseeing budget development, accounting, payroll, and cash flow management, ensuring compliance with Canadian accounting standards and best practices.  The Director’s operational oversight encompasses human resource management, where they will drive integral HR strategies and functions, maintain regulatory compliance, and foster positive work relations and a high-performance culture that promotes collaboration. Furthermore, as the overseer of Information Technology Services, the Director will provide vision and leadership for IT initiatives and ensure the integration of systems to support business operation. Additionally, this role will spearhead the implementation of a new association management software. The Director will also serve as the Privacy Officer and manage risk by identifying, evaluating, and mitigating operational and strategic risks.

As the ideal candidate, you are a seasoned CPA with previous board experience, providing fiscal leadership, advice, and guidance within a small nonprofit environment. You have strong relationship management skills and emotional intelligence that lend themselves to your skill and expertise in the human resource function (CHRP preferred). You have experience in understanding the dynamic between your team and the CEO you report into. You are a change agent with impeccable ethics, and you enjoy improving processes and systems within an ever-evolving organization. As such, you will be at the forefront of leading multiple functions with a hands-on approach, guiding and coaching your small team. You value the important role certified Dermatologists play in improving patient care and health outcomes and understand the role of a national medical speciality association. You are valued for your ability to convey complex, technical information clearly and succinctly to colleagues at all levels (in both official languages, ideally), and for your willingness and comfort at being an involved and inclusive contributor.
