POSITION SUMMARY:

SE Health is seeking a dynamic and results-oriented quality and professional practice leader inspired by delivering best in class clinical approaches through empowerment of people.  The successful candidate will be a proven executive leader, facilitator, capacity builder, and influencer.

The Senior Clinical Director will play a key leadership role in the organizational Office of Quality, through fostering cross-functional and organization-wide collaboration with all of SE Health’s business line and corporate office departments.

Reporting to the Vice President, Senior’s Health and Chief Clinical Executive, this newly created Senior Director role leads a team of Advanced Practice Leaders and organizational priorities such as patient safety, continuous quality improvement, model of care, and sustaining evidence-informed practice and safety culture.

A strong focus on leading practices, standards, client-centeredness, and safety is paramount to support SE Health’s professional practice strategic priorities and align with the overall vision and mission of the organization.  Such focus will be achieved through leadership actions and measurable results in establishing organizational clinical protocols, structures, and processes for implementation, and building clinical leadership capacity across all business areas within SE Health, including but not limited to government funded home and community care, facility-based senior’s living, direct to consumer services, and social enterprise initiatives (e.g., hospice palliative care).

In collaboration with operations business owners, the Senior Director is a key member of the clinical executive leadership team for the design, delivery and evaluation of a rigorous, evidence-informed quality and client safety program across SE Health.  The Senior Director fosters a culture of continuous quality improvement and excellence by working with partners to develop and enhance systems and processes that embed dimensions of quality.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the Advanced Practice Leadership (APL) team in collaboration with the Senior Clinical Director, Professional Practice.  APL Portfolios include but not limited to:

  • Competency Development & Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO)

  • Palliative End of Life Care
  • Rehabilitation
  • Virtual Care
  • Wound Ostomy Continence Care
  • Lead organizational clinical protocol development, implementation, evaluation, and innovation for specialties such as gerontology, palliative care, medication safety, and wound ostomy continence care.
  • Lead and facilitate organizational knowledge practice translation.
  • Lead key initiatives in the Office of Quality by directing, overseeing, planning, coordinating and evaluating a comprehensive program to improve clinical outcomes, enhance value, and minimize patient harm.
  • In collaboration with operations leadership, oversee all aspects of the quality program, including quality measurement, external reporting, quality improvement, and high reliability, in collaboration with operations.
  • In collaboration with operations leadership, enhance organizational safety culture, including incident reporting, root cause analyses, sentinel event reporting, failure mode analyses, systems design, failure modes and effects analysis, and proactive point of care provider education and development.
  • Lead clinical leadership capacity building in patient safety and continuous quality improvement, adopting the quadruple aim of quality framework and leading practices for measurable results.
  • Lead scholarly professional practice activities such as conference presentation and publications.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Education, Research, Innovation and SE Global to support a culture of care excellent and innovation.
  • Identify and support the implementation of clinical practice changes in workflow processes, systems, and scope of practice/skillmix to support improvement activities related to care processes, quality, safety, and client and family engagement.
  • Contributes to the development and execution of the SE Health’s Model of Care in relation to practice excellence.
  • Inspire and enable individuals and teams to adopt evidence-informed, leading practices.
  • Provide leadership to the academic mission through the provision of an effective learning environment for all staff, undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Offer excellence in mentorship and coaching.
  • Maintain eligibility for status appointment to the appropriate Faculty at academic institutions.
  • Supports the Vice President and Chief Clinical Executive in strategic dialogue with internal and external partners and stakeholders to drive ideas and strategies for advancing collective quality practices and outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with the College of Nurses of Ontario, College of Physiotherapists of Ontario, College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario, RNAO, RPNAO and other professional associations as required
  • Models leadership attitudes and behaviors consistent with SE Health values, including a relentless focus on person-centered care, excellence, accountability, collaboration, empowerment, and innovation.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A registered nurse leader holding a current professional license, in good standing, to practice in Ontario, and/or Alberta
  • Master’s Degree with a focus on Health Sciences, Health or Business Administration, or related field, with a focus on quality and patient safety
  • Minimum five (5) to eight (8) years related progressive experience in a formal leadership role at a director equivalent level or above
  • Extensive knowledge of clinical operations, as it relates to quality and patient safety
  • Demonstrated ability to lead in a national organization environment that supports excellence in clinical practice
  • Demonstrated excellence in effective communication and in the ability to build and sustain collaborative partnerships internally and externally
  • Demonstrated track record of leadership and change management in complex environments
  • Demonstrated innovative program design and project management skills
  • Knowledge of service delivery models used in home and community care, seniors living, direct to consumer services, including the roles of health care professionals
  • Strong ability to use data and analytics to inform decisions.
  • Strong project management, policy and program development and implementation experience.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficient in operating computer programs
  • Ability to communicate in French and/or another language is considered an asset
