Heather Toporowski

I came to coaching after 30 years of leadership experience in the Alberta health system, serving as Senior Vice-President and Vice-President during a period of extensive change. I was privileged to work with several physician leaders in co-management dyad roles, and to work closely with government, physicians, and Primary Care Networks. I have a reputation for strategic planning and strategic leadership, creating high-performing teams, and creating opportunities for emerging leaders to excel.

As an Executive Coach, this experience gives me an understanding of the environment that leaders in the public sector work within, particularly in times of rapid change and budget constraints. It is a challenging experience, and my clients have commented on the importance of having a safe haven and time for reflection in our sessions.  My first experience of executive coaching as a client 10 years ago was a transformational experience, and was one of the things that led me to pursue a coaching career. I am passionate about creating a similar experience for my clients.

My clients have worked in a variety of sectors including government, non-profit, health and small business, and have ranged from emerging leaders to experienced senior leaders. Clients have told me that I create a calm, respectful and supportive environment where they are listened to with curiosity and compassion. They report their confidence, resilience and ability to face challenges have improved through their work with me. Acting as their thinking partner, I have helped clients clarify and achieve their vision and goals.

In addition to coaching, I enjoy my volunteer work in the community, including my role on the executive of the Tawatinaw Valley Ski Club. As well as being an avid reader, I am active in a variety of outdoor pursuits, including cross-country skiing, hiking, biking and canoeing.
