Aggie Black is a remarkable leader and visionary in the field of nursing. Since joining Providence Health Care in 2010, Aggie has advanced standards of nursing and patient care to new heights. As the Director of Health Services & Clinical Research & Knowledge Translation, her tenure has been marked by pioneering initiatives that have reverberated across local, provincial, and national landscapes.

Aggie’s visionary leadership has fostered interdisciplinary collaboration and spearheaded groundbreaking programs aimed at enhancing both patient care and clinician well-being. Her Practice-Based Research Challenge, initiated in 2011, not only deepened the research acumen of clinical staff but also catalyzed tangible improvements in patient care across PHC.

Beyond PHC, Aggie’s impact knows no bounds. Her KT Challenge, launched in 2017, has united diverse disciplines and propelled healthcare programs forward. Examples like the ‘Let’s Move’ study with UBC in 2022, showcasing positive outcomes in clinician well-being through app-based interventions, and the Mend & Tend initiative launched in 2023 for homeless individuals in downtown Vancouver, underscore Aggie’s unwavering commitment to holistic patient care and community well-being. Aggie’s transformative initiatives and tireless advocacy for nursing education and patient-centered care make her a true luminary in the field of healthcare.

The Nursing Leadership Award builds on the themes of patient centered care and leadership, and honours those who demonstrate an ongoing commitment to excellence in these areas.

This award is sponsored by the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA). CNA is a powerhouse nursing organization leading the development of health policy across Canada. Representing Canada’s 466,000 regulated nurses, across all 13 provinces and territories, they are the only focal point for the profession on the national stage — and have been since 1908.

This award is part of our CCHL National Awards Program and will be presented at the Honouring Health Leadership event on June 2, 2024.
