CCHL and CASCADES Partner to offer a Health Leadership Specialty in Sustainable Health Systems

November 22, 2022

Health leaders can now boost their competence in sustainable health systems – at a time when it has never been more important.

The Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) and CASCADES: Creating a Sustainable Canadian Health System in a Climate Crisis are partnering to offer health leaders in Canada a new avenue to leverage, build knowledge, skills and networks across Canada’s healthcare community to promote and deliver sustainable health systems.

Through a new offering from CCHL, health leaders can pursue Health Leadership Specialties (HLS) and earn credit towards the newly minted CCHL Fellowship Select Program.

Brenda Lammi, Vice President, Leadership and Professional Development at the CCHL, said: “Health Leadership Specialties are an exciting new development for CCHL as we have the opportunity to partner with incredible organizations and hopefully influence the life-long learning and impact of health leaders as they apply what they learn directly in their daily work.”

Through the HLS in Sustainable Health Systems, Canadian health leaders will undertake the Fundamentals of Sustainable Health Systems course and one of the advanced courses. Participants will apply their learning in their workplace and write a paper on the impact and experience of knowledge translation. The paper is reviewed by a panel of three CCHL Fellowship Evaluators, who may award the Health Leadership Specialty in Sustainable Health Systems.

Fiona Miller, director of CASCADES said, “Health leaders are increasingly recognizing the need to address the accelerating and complex threats and obligations that climate and global ecological change pose for health systems. This partnership creates an important new opportunity to empower leaders to become sustainability champions and lead the transition to a climate resilient and sustainable health system.”
