CCHL and Nurse Practitioners’ Association of Ontario (NPAO) Agree to Strategic Alliance

July 30, 2024

New partnership agreement serves as an avenue to promote excellence in the health leadership field.

The Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) and the Nurse Practitioners’ Association of Ontario (NPAO) have signed a new strategic alliance to expand healthcare leaders’ capabilities in Canada and strengthen knowledge sharing across communities of digital health leaders.

Through this agreement, NPAO members will receive a reduced registration fee for the Certified Health Executive (CHE) Program. The CHE designation is the only certification program for all Canadian health leaders. This program offers individual leaders several benefits including support for lifelong learning in health services leadership; assistance with career advancement; peer recognition and serves as an essential career designation. In addition, each organization will deliver one webinar to each other’s membership community. Members of each organization will receive preferred rates for key events.

“Nurses from across the continuum of care, including direct care nurses, emerging leaders, new managers, existing leaders, and nursing executives will be essential to resolving the challenges facing the health system in the post-pandemic world, especially regarding health human resources”, states Brenda Lammi, Senior Vice President of Professional Leadership and Development of the Canadian College of Health Leaders. “We believe this partnership will have an impact on effective system change and leadership.”

“Nurse Practitioners play a pivotal role in healthcare delivery across all health sectors. Beyond patient care, nurse practitioners are increasingly taking on leadership roles that are forging the future of healthcare”, shared Marcela Killin, lead of Strategy and Operations with NPAO. “We believe this partnership will support nurse practitioners with the skills and resources they need to continue driving innovation and health system transformation.”

Both NPAO and CCHL share a common interest in ensuring that Canada’s health leaders have the skills, knowledge, and education needed to contribute to Canada’s healthcare system through ongoing professional development and lifelong learning. Together, they will grow and extend the connections between communities of health leaders and digital health innovators and provide connections, content and other opportunities.

About Nurse Practitioners’ Association of Ontario

Founded in 1973 by Nurse Practitioner graduates, the Nurse Practitioners’ Association of Ontario (NPAO) initially represented NPs in primary care. It raised the NP role’s visibility through media and lobbying. In 1998, NPAO expanded to include NPs in all healthcare levels. Run by an elected voluntary board, NPAO sponsors an annual conference, maintains a website, publishes a newsletter, facilitates education programs, and offers awards to members.

About the College

The Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL), a national member-driven non-profit association, is the connected community that develops, supports, and inspires health leaders across Canada. The College strives to provide the leadership development, tools, knowledge, and networks that members need to become high-impact leaders in Canadian healthcare.

As defined by the LEADS in a Caring Environment, a leader is anyone with the capacity to influence others to work together constructively. The College’s Professional Leadership Development team provides LEADS-based leadership development services, and partners with organizations, authorities, and regions to facilitate not only the adoption of the framework but a cultural shift required to fully embed LEADS throughout an organization.

Through LEADS, the CHE designation, credentialing, training, conferences, mentoring and a nationwide careers network, we support health leaders in every sector and region, from every professional background and at any stage of their career.

Located in Ottawa, the College collaborates with 20 chapters across the country and engages with its 4,300 members and 80 corporate members to promote lifelong learning and professional development while recognizing leadership excellence.
