CCHL Unveils Revised Version of Certified Health Executive Credentialing Program: CHE Select

August 22, 2019

The Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) is unveiling a revised version of its Certified Health Executive (CHE) Program – the only Canadian professional designation available to health leaders – in order to adapt and reflect the constant changes and leadership needs within the Canadian health system. The revised program, CHE Select, will be launched on June 1, 2019.

“ CHE Select intensifies the College’s role in supporting leaders in the Canadian health system to define and understand their leadership style and the role they play in leading systems change” says Brenda Lammi, Vice-President, Professional and Leadership Development, at CCHL. “The revised program represents an extensive journey into LEADS-based leadership development using tools, content and processes representing current best practices and evidence.”

The LEADS in a Caring Environment leadership capabilities framework (LEADS) has been adopted and integrated into numerous health organizations, authorities and regions across Canada. The broad uptake, integration and growing momentum of LEADS sparked the need to fully incorporate LEADS content and current best practices into the CHE credential.

The CHE Select program represents an opportunity for individual leaders, at all levels of an organization and regardless of formal title, to build a foundation of LEADS-based skills and capabilities that enables them to seamlessly enter a LEADS-integrated health organization. The potential of the common leadership language of LEADS for individual health leaders and health organizations throughout the continuum of care is to inspire and build capacity to work together towards shaping the Canadian health system for the best outcomes for patients and their families.

Upon completion of the program, participants are awarded the CHE credential, maintenance of which represents life-long learning and ongoing leadership skill development.

Initially established in 1984 to provide a Canadian credential that recognizes effective leadership in Canadian health services, the CHE Program is regularly reviewed and revised by the College’s CHE Program Committee and the Professional Standard Council. All new CHE applicants after the launch date will enter the CHE Select program. The CHE Legacy program (the CHE program currently in place) will continue to run for those currently enrolled in the program.
