The Canadian College of Health Leaders is proud to announce that CHU Sainte-Justine was named recipient of the 2024 Excellence in Patient Safety Award, in recognition of its Integrated Quality and Improvement Model (MIQA), a comprehensive approach to enhancing patient safety and continuous improvement.
MIQA, initiated in 2017, integrates various mechanisms to foster a culture of excellence, particularly emphasizing patient safety. By establishing a unified vision of quality and continuous improvement, MIQA engages all teams and stakeholders dynamically, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
MIQA’s effectiveness is evident through its activities in training, information dissemination, and assessment. Through events, workshops, newsletters, and games, MIQA facilitates knowledge transfer and fosters a sense of teamwork among staff. Meanwhile, its rigorous assessment methods, including audits, surveys, and simulations, continuously evaluate care quality and generate actionable recommendations for improvement.
The impact of MIQA is palpable, as evidenced by significant improvements in compliance rates during accreditation visits. This holistic model, addressing areas such as infection prevention and data safety, reflects CHU Sainte-Justine’s unwavering commitment to patient safety and quality care.
This Excellence in Patient Safety Award recognizes individuals and teams that are committed to improving patient safety practices within the healthcare environment, through leadership, culture, best practices, innovation and change management expertise.
The award is sponsored by BD-Canada, one of the largest global medical technology companies in the world and is advancing the world of health by improving medical discovery, diagnostics and the delivery of care.
This award is part of our CCHL National Awards Program and will be presented at the Honouring Health Leadership event on June 2, 2024.
