Doran Walker on Building Leadership That Outlives the Role, through Innovation and Human-Centred Health

September 7, 2025

As a healthcare executive, consultant, and founder of BioMD Consulting, Doran Walker currently leads operations for Older Adult Rehabilitation at Glenrose Hospital in Edmonton. His career combines clinical experience, digital fluency, and systems-level thinking, enabling him to transform ideas into scalable, human-centred solutions.

Doran’s career began in nursing, where he quickly recognized that the systems surrounding care often required as much attention as the symptoms themselves. This realization led him to dedicate his career to redesigning health environments. Through BioMD, he collaborates with technology firms, government stakeholders, and healthcare institutions to bridge the “adoption gap:” the space where promising innovation often fails due to systemic barriers. Since then, his work has centred on making bold ideas land in real-world practice.

His recent white paper, Healing Hospitals, which earned commendation from the Surgeon General of Canada and includes a foreword by a LEADS founder, has sparked national dialogue on how to make hospital systems high performing, yet still deeply human.

However, Doran’s proudest achievements are the ones that create space for others. He founded the Catalyst for Change Conference, a national event designed to lift emerging voices in health leadership. He also helped broker the strategic partnership between Emerging Health Leaders and CCHL, making it possible for both networks to scale their impact.

“Leadership becomes legacy when it enables others to grow and lead”

DORAN Walker, ON leadership

As a dedicated member of CCHL’s Northern Alberta Chapter, Doran views local chapters as more than geographic designations; they’re launchpads. “It’s where national vision gets boots on the ground,” he says. “A testing ground for big ideas.”

Doran Walker is the 2025 recipient of the Northern Alberta Chapter Award for Distinguished Service, recognized for his sustained contributions to leadership excellence, innovation, and the development of future health system leaders.
