Healthcare Management Forum is planning a special edition on preparing to lead in healthcare for July 2026. This edition is designed to showcase the work of aspiring health leaders and cover the issues that matter most to this community of professionals.
Authors are invited to submit a 200-word abstract to lwilson@cchl-ccls.ca by February 17, 2025. Abstracts should include a short overview of the proposed manuscript, the intended audience, key messages, and evidence (rooted in theory and not just personal experience) used to support arguments. Full articles will be due for peer review by January 15, 2026.
The editorial staff will consider articles about how aspiring leaders are tackling the following:
- the complexity of healthcare systems (organizational structures, advocacy, policy and regulation changes, technology integration);
- financial constraints (budget management, resource allocation, balancing care with costs);
- workforce challenges (staff shortages, managing interdisciplinary teams, worker burnout);
- leadership skills development (making decisions, improving communication, maintaining continuity through change, the importance of mentorship);
- cultural competency and equity (reducing health disparities, promoting inclusive leadership);
- ethical and legal challenges (patient privacy data breaches, end-of-life decisions);
- personal practices that help leaders grow and develop both personally and professionally (self-care);
- organizational and educational programs designed to prepare frontline health workers for leadership (which includes research or evaluation results); and
- incentive and reward programs for new and prospective leaders (including evidence that they work).
All potential authors will be contacted through e-mail by the Managing Editor.
