Learn about Healthcare Excellence Canada’s EXTRA™: Executive Training Program

September 26, 2022

Are you and your team looking for support in leadership development and quality improvement? The call for applications is now open for Healthcare Excellence Canada’s EXTRA™: Executive Training Program, Cohort 18. Teams made up of leaders in healthcare and social services across Canada are welcome to apply.

EXTRA builds the capabilities of leaders to create more resilient organizations, better able to address complex problems. All with the aim to improve quality and safety in healthcare.

Together with other leaders from across the country, EXTRA helps teams create innovative, evidence-informed ways to make health and social system improvements – making lasting change in organizations.

More than 500 fellows have successfully completed EXTRA’s bilingual program, receiving support to plan for the future by developing stronger leadership skills. The program accomplishes this through hands-on, strategic coaching with healthcare executives, teamwork and meaningful engagement with people with lived experience.

Participants of EXTRA’s 16-month program learn how to use evidence to directly address system problems – such as how to integrate care better and how to build better pathways for patients with complex medical needs. And they learn more about co-designing projects with people with lived experience, including patients, families and caregivers.

Eighty-three per cent of improvement teams from a recent EXTRA cohort reported making improvements in the health of patients and residents, resulting from their quality improvement project.

Graduates of the EXTRA program benefit from a discounted rate for the CHE Program and advanced standing to the LEADS Learning and LEADS in Action Project components of the program.
