From clinical roots to system-wide impact: Peter Conteduca shares lessons from a lifelong leadership journey

July 8, 2025

With nearly four decades of experience spanning clinical care, hospital management, and executive leadership in the medical device industry, Peter Conteduca has built a career defined by adaptability, engaging mentorship, and a deep commitment to advancing healthcare in Canada.

Peter began his career in 1985 as a Respiratory Therapist, working in Toronto hospitals where he quickly developed a passion for professional development and team support. That interest led him to a Clinical Instructor role, guiding students through their final year of respiratory therapy training. His growing interest in systems and operations paved the way for a transition into healthcare management, where he served as Director of Cardio-Respiratory at a hospital in the Greater Toronto Area.

“The positive thinker sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible.”
– Winston Churchill

A reflection of the belief system behind Peter’s leadership style

Peter later brought his leadership expertise into the medical device industry, where he has held roles in sales, marketing, product management, business development, and executive strategy. Today, he serves as a senior executive at a national company that delivers a wide range of healthcare solutions across the country. Throughout this journey, he has consistently demonstrated a people-first leadership philosophy rooted in collaboration, mentorship, and strategic impact. He explains, “it’s been a lifelong journey of growth, support, and shared success.”

His involvement in the College has been a key part of that journey, helping him connect with like-minded professionals, stay engaged in leadership best practices, and give back to the health leadership community. Mentorship has also been a defining part of Peter’s leadership journey. While he has supported many early-career professionals along the way, he sees mentorship as a reciprocal process that continues to shape his own growth. He views leadership not as a position of authority, but as a practice rooted in collaboration, continuous learning, and a collective sense of purpose. He encourages early-career leaders to begin by attending a local chapter event, highlighting that “these local connections often become the foundation of a broader, lifelong professional network.”

Peter was selected by the Greater Toronto Area Chapter as the recipient of the 2025 Chapter Award for Distinguished Service in recognition of his contributions. He notes that being part of the College has allowed him to stay connected to a vibrant community of professionals who are passionate about improving health care. He values the opportunity to give back—whether through mentorship, attending events, or supporting the next generation of leaders—and encourages others to get involved, even if it starts with simply showing up.
