Steve Kovacic, CHE named recipient of the 2025 Mentorship Award

The Canadian College of Health Leaders is proud to announce that Steve Kovacic, CHE, Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer at Good Samaritan, has been named recipient of the 2025 Mentorship Award.

Steve has been recognized for his unwavering commitment to fostering leadership in the Canadian healthcare system. Throughout his distinguished career, Steve has embodied the values of mentorship, dedicating himself to helping others grow professionally and personally. His exceptional ability to provide constructive feedback, build strong professional networks, and create a culture of mentorship within organizations has had a profound impact on the healthcare community.

Since joining Good Samaritan in 2021, Steve has made significant contributions to the organization’s leadership development by co-leading the creation of a robust mentorship program. His work has empowered leaders across the organization, and his involvement in initiatives like the Emerging Health Leaders (EHL) program and his leadership roles in various provincial boards demonstrate his far-reaching influence on healthcare mentorship. By integrating the LEADS framework into his mentorship approach, Steve has cultivated a leadership pipeline that is not only skillful but also empathetic, resilient, and forward-thinking.

Steve’s mentorship extends beyond the confines of Good Samaritan and the Alberta healthcare system. He has mentored healthcare professionals at all stages of their careers, helping them navigate complex challenges and reach their full potential. His mentees describe him as approachable, inspirational, and transformative—traits that are a testament to his deep passion for developing the next generation of healthcare leaders. Steve’s ability to balance strategic insight with a personalized, supportive approach has earned him a reputation as one of the healthcare sector’s most impactful mentors, and it is this legacy of leadership development that has earned him this well-deserved recognition.

The Mentorship Award is presented to a leader in the healthcare system who demonstrates exemplary, sustained commitment to mentoring, and inspiring healthcare leadership.
