RESEARCH SUMMARY

The negative impacts of substance use contribute to health inequities in our societies. As Canada Research Chair in Social Accountability, Dr. Daniel Myran is trying to advance our understanding of what these impacts are and how they create inequities.

He and his research team are investigating how harms from substance use are changing over time. To do this, they are using big data, partnering with affected patients and communities, and collaborating with health care providers and policymakers. They are also looking at how government health policies affect substance use. Their work aims to shed light on what the best interventions are—both to reduce harms from substance use and to improve health care delivery—including promoting the health of health care workers.
