Registrar and Chief Executive Officer

The College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (the College) is the body responsible for regulating the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) professionals in the public interest under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 and Traditional Chinese Medicine Act, 2006. It is the only organization legally authorized by the Ontario government to evaluate applicants and determine who is qualified to practice TCM in Ontario and to call themselves Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists.

Since first being proclaimed in April 2013 the College has now had 11 robust years of operations with membership approaching 3,000. As the College continues to grow, it remains focused on its mandate of “regulating the profession in the public interest,” which is also a focal point of all discussions and decisions.

A new, five-year, Strategic Plan was approved by Council in 2023 establishing strategic priorities and key activities for the next five years. The vision for the College in the new Strategic Plan is “Full public confidence in the safe and effective practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine.” In addition, the College will look to achieve its vision by carrying out the mandate of “Protecting the public through a transparent and effective regulatory environment while guiding Traditional Chinese Medicine professionals.”

In support of the vision and mandate, the College established four strategic directions to guide activities over the next five years. The strategic directions include effective right touch regulation, continued quality improvement, informed and interactive stakeholders, and modernized governance.

Guided by the vision and mandate, the new Strategic Plan supports the continuing competence of TCM practitioners in the delivery of safe and effective care in this rapidly changing environment. The goal is to apply evolving regulatory practices to enhance public protection and strengthen the work of the College with valued partners, as we continue to strive for excellence in governance, and in advancing and regulating the practice of the TCM profession in Ontario.
