CCHL President and CEO Alain Doucet Announces Plan to Retire at the End of 2024

March 25, 2024

Following a successful mandate with the Canadian College of Health Leaders, Alain Doucet, President and CEO, has announced his retirement at the end of this year.

Serving in the CEO position since 2018, Alain has made a significant impact on our organization, including modernizing our services and infrastructure, and ensuring the financial sustainability needed to support short and long-term strategic objectives while going through a global pandemic.

As Alain mentioned in his 2023 year-end recap to members: “for the fourth year in a row, we achieved record results in three key metrics. But I think the state of the College reflects more than just record metrics, I think we’re seeing a real sense of momentum”.

Under his leadership, the CCHL has focused on its purpose to ‘be the connected community that develops, supports, and inspires health leaders across Canada’. He has led the team through transforming the Fellows and CHE credentials, developing tools and resources to augment the LEADS framework and leadership development services, and has established important alliances with partner organizations, to name a few.

“Alain has been a solid ‘true north’ for the organization. With his unwavering commitment to the organization, its members and partners, he has developed a strong team to support the mandate and profile CCHL as a leader in the healthcare landscape”.

Brenda Rebman, Board Chair, on behalf of the Board of Directors

A search committee, comprised of current board members, and chaired by the current Chair of
the Board, has been established to identify a replacement. Supported by the executive recruitment firm Boyden Canada, the committee will be conducting extensive outreach to ensure it considers candidates with a wide range of expertise and backgrounds, in keeping with CCHL’s commitment to connecting, developing, supporting and inspiring health leaders across Canada.

On a personal note, we want to thank Alain for his outstanding leadership, vision, and the values such as integrity, passion, and tenacity he brings to this role every day. There is much work to do to meet our objectives for 2024 and the team remains focused on our operations and deliverables.

We will continue to provide updates to you as the process unfolds.

Sincerely,

Brenda Rebman, CHE, Chair, Board of Directors
Marc Bilodeau, FCCHL, Interim Vice Chair, Board of Directors
